One of the principals uses of the clays, over that for ceramic body, it’s that of the engobe for the preparation of the enamels. The fact of "to close" every possibility to the organic substances, present in the mix, to go out in cooking through enamel and to create therefore the small holes defined pins, with mixtures primarily to base of alumina, zirconium silicate, frit and other devilries, the everything tied by the clay for engobe, that must be plastic and purer possible, without organic content.

Magnesium carbonate has only recently started to be used in the ceramics industry. In fact, magnesium carbonate is used in only some specific situations: either as a matting agent for “Sassuolo white” glazes, to obtain a velvet, dulled surface, or a fluxing agent for shimmed screen-prints, or as flux for mixtures, or in ceramic roller engobes.
