Engobe clays, a new product from MC

One of the principals uses of the clays, over that for ceramic body, it’s that of the engobe for the preparation of the enamels. The fact of "to close" every possibility to the organic substances, present in the mix, to go out in cooking through enamel and to create therefore the small holes defined pins, with mixtures primarily to base of alumina, zirconium silicate, frit and other devilries, the everything tied by the clay for engobe, that must be plastic and purer possible, without organic content.

We have simplified defining "devilries" other products as the bentonite or the talc that are used also for the engobe. Our firm produces clay atomized (MC SE 35) that is appreciated for the fact of the homogenization. In practice the grinding and the following atomization do that at the end the clay MC SE 35 both very homogeneous and has never given problems of continuity. Already the continuity. Some of the principal factors of all the raw materials ceramic are the continuity, the constancy and the quality.

We would now want to add a new clay to the MC SE 35. This new clay has a different origin. If for the MC SE 35 we speak of clays mixture coming from the Ukraina, for this new clay that we call MC SK 101 the origin it’s Turkey. In the zone of Sile, in Turkey, opposite the Black Sea after a superficial crust of around 6 meters flinty sand, we found some type of clay, very plastic and of pastel color in cooking to 1200 °C. Why the pastel color? Because the combination among the content in iron oxide and the content in titanium oxide, after cooking, it would give as resulted this coloration.

To avoid this and to do that our clay results after cooking white, is provided to a mix and consequent dilution in water, with filter-press, elimination of further silica and, following cold-draw in small pieces, this clay is desiccated in oven. In this way we can deliver in sacks from 25 Kgs or in big bags from 1 Mton. The chemical analysis of this clay is the following:
